I live here, my crew live here and all of our customers live here so being able to give back to the community is a great thing.

Why Franchising?

Becoming a McDonald’s Franchisee was attractive to me because I knew it was a mature business model that could potentially give me the opportunity to grow a sizeable business for myself. This allowed me to strike a much better work/life home balance. I was a Board Director of a group of companies based in London and part of the leadership team that grew and developed the business. The problem was my family were based in Sutton Coldfield and my businesses were based in London so I was commuting all the time. Being a Franchisee in the system for two years now my work-life balance is much better than it used to be.

Making the move

In my existing industry, I was a success, I’d been involved in it for a long time so moving into a brand new environment was quite daunting. However, the training was fantastic. McDonald’s use a blended learning path which is learning on the job, learning from others and formal training as well and it gave me the skills and experience to hit the ground running with my first restaurant. I was able to bring from my previous career, a transferable skill set, previous knowledge and insights from another industry which has really helped my journey with McDonald’s so far.

My McDonald’s community

Being a McDonald’s Franchisee means that I represent this global, iconic brand at a local level within the community I am embedded in and that I serve. My restaurant teams and I do so much within our local community, everything from litter picks to fundraising for the local charities. We also work with Ronald McDonald House Charities and have committed to sponsoring a room in the RMHC House at Birmingham children’s hospital.
