Mason Smoot is Senior Vice President and Chief Restaurant Officer for McDonald’s USA. In this role, Mason oversees Franchising, U.S. Operations and Restaurant Development.
Prior to returning to the U.S. business in May 2020, Mason served as Senior Vice President, Strategic Alignment and Chief of Staff, Office of the CEO where he worked closely with the CEO and Senior Leadership Team to coordinate strategic management, performance management and alignment.
A 26-year McDonald’s veteran, Mason’s experience in various roles has given him a strong first-hand perspective of the McDonald’s business and the market’s influence on customers’ perception of the McDonald’s brand.
Recent leadership roles include Vice President of U.S. Human Resources and Vice President and General Manager of the McDonald’s New York Metro Region. While in New York, he was responsible for leading more than 620 restaurants, owned and operated by more than 140 franchisees in one of the world’s most dynamic global markets.
Mason began his career with McDonald’s in 1994 with the former Bedminster, New Jersey Region, holding positions of Regional Human Resources Manager, Regional Franchising Manager and McOpCo Operations Manager. Mason served as Field Service Manager and Director of Operations in the New York Metro Region and, in 2001, was promoted to Quality, Service and Cleanliness (QSC) Vice President of the Pittsburgh Region, where he was responsible for the operations of more than 400 restaurants from Rochester, NY to Southern West Virginia.
In 2006, Mason became the QSC Vice President of the New York Metro Region and subsequently promoted in 2007 to the Vice President/General Manager.
During his impressive McDonald’s career, Mason has received several accolades for his commitment to the business, the brand and our people, including the President’s Award, East Division People Award and Greater Red Bank NAACP Corporate Leadership Award.
Prior to joining McDonald’s, Mason served as a Military Intelligence Officer with the U.S. Army. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology from Western Kentucky University. A proud family man, Mason and his wife, Toni, reside in Lake Forest, IL.
